Wordsmith + Kory Caudill: A Concert for the Human Family

Join Bishop Carrie Schofield-Broadbent and Episcopalians from across our Diocese for A Concert for the Human Family, a special program headlined by Baltimore’s own hip-hop star Wordsmith. This fusion concert, developed in conjunction with The Episcopal Church’s vision for Becoming Beloved Community, aims to advance racial reconciliation and healing within — and beyond — the Church. Over the course of an evening, venture into a sonic realm that effortlessly blends jazz, hip-hop, and bluegrass musical styles with profound narratives designed to catalyze meaningful dialogues on reconciliation, healing, and justice within the tapestry of our diverse communities. Indeed, here in Maryland and beyond, the power of these songs and narratives will help to break down the walls separating us and unite us in bonds of love.

This past Sunday, August 25th, we gathered to bid a heartfelt farewell to our beloved rector, Rev. Grey Maggiano, and his family. With 160 attendees, the event was filled with delicious food, warm fellowship, and cherished memories that truly captured the spirit of our community. The stories and moments shared were a beautiful reflection of the impact Rev. Grey has had on all of us. If you missed the slideshow, please take a moment to view it and join us in celebrating the legacy of Rev. Grey and his family. Thank you to everyone who made this day so memorable!

SAVE THE DATE!

Join us as we come together to honor and celebrate the incredible journey of our Rector and his lovely family. While change can be challenging, it also brings new opportunities and possibilities. Let's gather to express our gratitude, share memories, and send them off with our love and prayers.

Date: Sunday, August 25th

Location: Sanctuary

Time: 9:30a

We will celebrate the immense blessing the Maggiano Family has been to our community and give thanks for their contributions. This will be a heartfelt occasion to reflect on the journey we’ve shared and look ahead with hope and faith.

As Proverbs reminds us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge the Lord, and the Lord will make straight your paths" (3:5-6). Let's embrace this transition together and look forward to what lies ahead for our Memorial family.

We look forward to seeing you there and celebrating this special moment together!

The Episcopal Diocese of Maryland and One America Movement are excited about the upcoming series of workshops: “Leading in Divided Times.” This four-part series will allow both clergy and lay leaders to gather and will be broken into four sections. Each session will be live-streamed on Zoom beginning on Tuesday, October 8, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. After registering, you will receive the Zoom link a week before the first session:

Week 1: The Science of Polarization (Tuesday, October 8, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM)

An overview of normal versus toxic polarization will frame the conversation over the subsequent four sessions and provide a starting point for participants to engage with the content. In this session, facilitators briefly introduce core concepts to set the stage for the following sessions.

Week 2: The Science of Listening (Tuesday, October 15, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM)

Understanding what happens in our brain when we listen to people that we disagree with is crucial to understanding toxic polarization. While what happens in our brain is real, with some work we can learn to control it.

Week 3: The Science of Being an Ingroup Moderate (Tuesday, October 22, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM)

Realizing when our group is becoming extreme and helping to call them back in can be difficult. Being an ingroup moderate doesn’t mean watering down your own views, but it does mean realizing when your own group might be the cause of some of the polarization. This session will explore some strategies around how to talk to your own side.

Week 4: Storytelling Through Difficult Conversation (Tuesday, October 29, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM)

This final session will bring everything together for a final interactive workshop. We will learn how to use storytelling to have productive, meaningful discussions with people who don’t think, vote, or believe the same way you do.

Tri-Church Education Series-Finding Hope in Uncertain Times

With the myth of the inevitability of progress wrenched from dominant public discourse, many are facing the painful reality of a world that seems to be drifting away from the future that our faith promises. How do we find energy to continue building toward that holy vision when things get worse, not better? How do we persevere when our actions for a just world seem inconsequential? Join members of Brown Memorial Presbyterian, Memorial Episcopal, and Corpus Christi Roman Catholic churches for dinner at 5:30, followed by education and discussion on these questions of finding hope in uncertain times.
